The Meccans, during the Jahiliyyah period, were so doubtful about the month of Safar that they labeled the month as the month of misfortune and especially the first 13 days of this month are considered to be very hard days and people avoid to perform any happy activity especially in these 13 days. What Islam says about a month of Safar

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H) said:

“ (There is) no ‘Adwa (no contagious disease is conveyed without Allah’s permission), nor is there any bad omen (from birds), nor is there any Haamah, nor is there any (bad omen in the month of) Safar, and one should run away from the leper as one runs away from the Lion.”

Jaabir (R.A) very clearly mentions about the superstitions and the wrong concept of Safar:

“ I have heard the prophet saying, the descending of illness and evil superstition befalling in the month of Safar is untrue”

What Islam says about month of Safar

Superstition is Shirk

A man leaves his house and on the way, a black cat crosses his path and he returns back to home thinking that it’s not a good sign which clearly means that he is thinking that cat has more power and authority that it can change his fate. It is clearly a shirk because you don’t have faith in Allah.

Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said:

“Taking omens is shirk; Taking omens is shirk. He said it three times. Every one of us has some (superstition), but Allah removes it by a trust (in him)” He also said :

“A person who derived bad luck from something and refrained from doing what he was intending to do, he was committed sin.”

Wrap Up

These are all misconceptions which all define that we don’t have faith on Allah. In this month Holly Prophet’s beloved daughter got married then how it can be a bad month in terms of marriages. As it is clearly narrated in Surah Nisa that What comes to you of good is from Allah but what comes to you of evil, [O man] is from yourself. And we have sent you, [O Muhammad], to the people as a messenger and sufficient is Allah as Witness.

There are no diseases, no bad luck and no omen in this month these are our own perceptions because we get ill in other months too, we get lost in business in other months too so considering the month of Safar a bad month is no less than a Shirk. We should have a faith on Allah Almighty and pray to Allah to protect everyone from all the diseases and losses.
