It has taken three years for the Model Town inquiry report to the public. The report was completed within a year but has been withheld by the Punjab government. A three-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered on Tuesday 5th December 2017, the Punjab government to release the Model Town inquiry report within 30 days.

Wednesday 17/01/2018 All political parties of Pakistan gathered in Mall Road, Lahore. PTI, PPP, PAT stand together against PMLN. They raise the point of Model Town massacre and demands to release model town inquiry report by Justice Baqir Najfi. All parties said they are with Tahir-ul-Qadri in this protest. Leaders of all parties address to the attendants. The Punjab government has said it would appeal in the Supreme Court the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) in order to make public the model town inquiry report of the Model Town incident.

The LHC ordered on Tuesday the Punjab government to release the inquiry report in 30 days and also conduct a transparent and impartial trial and also provide the same to Pakistan Awami Tehreek. It was a delayed decision however the case which has been the centre of the political and legal debate seems to be reaching its end. The model town inquiry report on the commission, formed under the supervision of Honourable Justice Baqir Najfi, was supposed to report its findings on the causes, and responsible for the Model Town carnage and according to some it did so, but the government did not publish the report on its own account.

The court has observed that the report will not affect the ongoing trial. The three-judge bench headed by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh reserved the ruling on November 24 on an intra-court appeal moved by the Punjab government challenging a single bench’s decision to release the model town inquiry report. Other two members of the bench are Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmad.

Tahir-ul-Qadri :

Tahir-ul-Qadri is the leader of PAT. He raised the case of model town tragedy and Qadri claimed further that the case is in its last stages, and that the arrested suspects are out on bail. He said that ousting Nawaz Sharif is not possible through decisions. LHC orders to make Model Town inquiry report public in 30 days. He answers to problems is not through courts but people’s verdict (elections), he stated further. The people’s decision should be respected, he said, adding that democracy and elections are the spirits of politics. At least fourteen individuals were killed and a hundred others harmed (mentioned in model city inquiry report) in action against PAT staff throughout an ’anti-encroachment operation’ June 17, 2014.

Model Town Inquiry Report

The Model Town Massacre, more commonly known as the Model Town tragedy or simply Lahore incident, was a violent clash that ensued between the Punjab Police and Pakistan Awami Three activists on seventeen June 2014 leading to many protesters being killed by the police gunshot. Five police officers remain under arrest. The standoff lasted for almost 11 hours when the police′s anti-encroachment squad launched an operation to remove the barriers from the road leading to the offices of Minhaj-ul-Quran and the residence of PAT founder Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri in Model city, Lahore. Even though police officials were given a court order by PAT leaders, stating "due to terrorism issue place security barriers in front of Minhaj-ul-Quran and the residence of PAT founder Dr.Qadri.

It was around 1:30 p.m. on Monday night on June 16, 2014, when the hundreds of police officials laid a siege to the central secretariat of MQI and the residence of PAT chief Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri. The police launched this operation suddenly without any prior notice presumably in the name of removing security barriers. They had heavy machinery at their disposal. These unarmed people braved the police action throughout the night. Later The police resorted to shelling of teargas, aerial firing and even started live firing at the protesters. People started to die. The bullet-riddled bodies could be seen lying on the roads. The people started shifting the injured people to the hospitals on their own. It was after 15 hours of continuous action that the police took control of MQI Secretariat.

Two lady workers were killed on the spot while many others were injured. As a result of this Police attack and state terrorism, seven people including two women died on the spot whereas 7 more succumbed to their injuries later on in hospitals. More than 90 people sustained serious injuries. The hundreds of workers were arrested, thrown into jails and shifted to undisclosed locations.

Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri had declared on media that in case of an attack, he would nominate key government figures in FIR. The brutal action undertaken by the government would spawn terrorism in the country. The nervous people like Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah and Khawaja Saad Rafique wanted to destroy peace and tranquillity of this country. Such brutal police action in the darkness of night cannot stop the way of revolution. We are peaceful people and want to stay peaceful but the rulers are using devious tactics out of nervousness.
